A new seminar programme was just one of the highlights of the 2014 Group Leisure & Travel Show at the NEC Birmingham which provided group organisers, coach operators and travel buyers with the opportunity to meet attractions, tourist boards, accommodation providers, ticketing agencies, exhibiting coach companies and tour operators.
Headlined by Simon Calder, senior travel editor of The Independent, alongside a line-up of travel professionals, visitors to the popular group travel event gleaned expert advice in the 2014 Seminar Theatre with sessions including ‘How to Find the Best Hotels for Groups’ and ‘Removing the Headache of Coach Travel into London’.
Simon also took part in a special Q&A moderated by Group Leisure publisher, Rob Yandell.
Once again, the one-day show provided a perfect platform for finding ideas and offers, making new contacts and renewing existing business relationships; bringing together hundreds of group organisers, travel buyers and exhibitors.
Following the success of the 2014 event, organisers have reported that a number of exhibitors have already booked their stands for 2015.
The Group Leisure & Travel Show will take place on 22nd October 2015 at the NEC Birmingham.
“We’ve met some great people and had some great conversations. The visitors have been loving it – and the free bacon butties were going down very well! Everyone has been enjoying themselves and saying good things about the show. There’s a great atmosphere; everyone is engaged and wanting to talk – and not just here for the free stuff so that’s brilliant!”
“We’ve had plenty of people interested in what we have to offer here, including all our various tours around the UK. One of the reasons that we exhibit in a place like this is because a lot of people don’t know we exist! We’re improving our groups offering and allowing more people to come on tours now; because previously we only had evening tours for up to 17 people and now we have daytime tours for up to 40 – so part of today was about promoting that as well.”
“It’s been really good; and we’ve had a busy couple of hours. We’ve had some good leads so we will go away and follow those up and hopefully it will generate some business for us in the future. I would definitely recommend other exhibitors to come along and give it a go!”
“We are certainly seeing a lot of people this time that I haven’t seen before, which is really good – and it’s all about getting new customers. I’m on the road all the time so I always see a lot of customers and tour operators – but it’s great to be seeing some new group organisers today. We’ve done a few one-day events and they do seem to be better – so I think that’s an improvement too.”
“We’re here for the second time and it’s just as exciting this year. We’re picking up tonnes of information and some new things to do. I’ve got plenty of ideas for day trips, and some new and interesting places – and I’ve not been all the way round yet!”
We are a group travel specialist – particularly for elderly people – and we visit the exhibition every year without fail. We think it’s getting better and better every year, and we are always interested in the eclectic mix of exhibitors and the friendly and varied welcome we get. All in all it’s a really good day out for us.”
“We’ve come to get ideas and inspiration for our walking group. We don’t do much in the way of day trips but we do a lot of short breaks and holidays. One year we came and we finished up going to Russia – which was tremendous!”
Exhibition sales manager Sharon Yandell, has been delighted by the positive feedback: “The addition of the Q&A session and seminar programme headlined by a panel of experts proved a fantastic addition to this established group travel event. The buzz generated from this year’s show is having a significant impact on bookings for 2015, with exhibitors signing up already.
“If anyone’s interested in exhibiting at next year’s show, now’s the time to get the position they want, so call me on 01908-613323 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.”

We also believe that advertisers respect our position and understand that readership is obtained by building a relationship where our products are not seen as just the typical ‘puff’ media so readily available, entirely motivated by commercial considerations.
The show has been very informative so far. We’ve come looking for hotels that can take coach groups in walking areas with a view to looking into foreign holidays as well – it’s been helpful and we’ve found certainly found one or two hotel groups and tour companies.
